Where the Red Fern Grows Book Club

1. Read the book at home, together with your family BEFORE the event.
2. As you read, consider the themes: perseverance, loyalty, love.
3. Choose one favorite quote from the book. Write the quote on a piece of paper large enough for others to read--we recommend using marker. Be sure to include the page number. Bring it with you.
4. Design a perfect companion animal for yourself. Draw/sketch/paint/color the animal on an 8.5x11" or larger piece of paper. Make a list of the traits you would want in this animal (be ready tell them to others and tell why you'd like this trait). What activities do you want to DO with this animal? Be ready to share. Bring it with you.
5. As a family, plan and create bite-sized book themed snacks--one for each person in attendance (probably 4 dozen bites). This could be an item from the book, or it can be an item that symbolizes something connected to the book.
6. On the day of the event, bring the book, a picnic blanket, your water bottles, your quotes, your perfect pet drawings, and your book bites with you. Wear close-toed shoes. Be ready for groups activities, discussions, and book fun in the woods with friends.
