About The Event
The best days and times to head out are during the week--as there will be fewer people at tide pooling at this time. The less disturbance to the environment, the better. Be on the lookout for all sorts of crustaceans, gastropods, mollusks, and echinoderm, such as: anemones, limpets, nudibranch, octopods, sea hare, and brittle stars. We can't wait to explore! Be sure to share your finds with us!
For the very best tide pooling experience, I recommend, wearing shoes and clothes that can get wet. Wear layers to protect against the cold or the sun, but that can be removed during the warmest part of day. Bring a change of clothes in the car for the kiddos to put on after tide pooling. Bring a few towels, too, for drying off those little feet. Remember your sun protection, water to stay hydrated, a few snacks and your nature journals.
Tide pooling is one of our favorite nature walks of the year. Plan to arrive an hour or two before low tide and stay an hour or two after low tide. Make this your entire day, remove the pressures of other events, and let yourselves really observe and linger. A slow day at the tide pools is truly a joyful one. We often end our day with a meal supporting a local food shack and return home refreshed, ready to rest, and spend a cozy evening IN together.
