Course Description: It’s time to dive into creating ceramic art! Join Instructor Maggie Skidmore for this special eight-week class and play with clay as you learn to design and shape artful ceramic creations using hand-building techniques for sculpted art. You’ll also have the opportunity to throw clay on a potter’s wheel to make vessels like bowls, cups or pots. Maggie will teach coiling, pinch pots, slab construction, etc. to take your ceramic art to the next level. Plus, you’ll learn about glazing your art to prepare it for being fired in a kiln. This process transforms the matte clay into vibrant artwork you’ll treasure for a lifetime. Maggie will provide project ideas, but you’ll have the freedom to create your own art.

**Please Note: Some art may not be glazed and fired. All art must be picked up at FSA within two weeks of completion of the class

About the Teacher:

Maggie Skidmore first started playing with clay as a kid, digging clay deposits out of a stream bed near her home on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. She has explored many art forms throughout her life. Maggie minored in art while earning a bachelor's degree in business fdrom the University of ashinton. Then after moving with her husband to California in 1990 she studied photography at Palomar Collge and worked as a professional photography assistant. While raising her two kids, she worked in the theater arts creating props and costumes for all their youth theater productions.

Maggie has been practicing ceramics since her first class with Merrill Everett at Fallbrook School ofthe Arts 16 years ago and is currently studying ceramics at Mira Costa College. She is warm, sweet, and full of patience--and her classes are in high demand, as she is adored by all her students.
