About The Event
Blair Valley is located Northeast of Julian on highway S2. It is a transitional desert ecosystem that tends to get more water and support more varitety of plants than the lower deserts further North and East. There are some very intersting Native American sites within several miles of the camping are, as well as the site of the Butter Field Stage Route.
Our hike will be on the PICTOGRAPHS trail. To access you will turn into the Blair Valley campground and follow the signs. It is 5.2 miles on the dirt road to get to the trail head. Our AGT camping group will likely be located in the first 1-2 miles off of the paved highway.
The trail is a 1.3 mile out and back hike totaling 2.6 miles. There is a Native American site with pictographs on a large boulder. The trail ends at the drainage of the valley into Smugglers Canyon Waterfall. Which will likely be dry but may have some water trickling down. We should be graced with an abundence of wildflowers and desert greenery this year.
