About The Event

Sea-to-Sky will be an overnight backpack camping trip at Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach. We will arrive Saturday August 21st and depart Sunday the 22nd. Saturday we will spend at the beach enjoying the beautiful water, sand, and waves. We will then make our way with camping gear on our backs to the primative Lower Morro Campground.

It is a 2.7 mile hike with 827ft elevation gain mostly in the last 1.5 miles. The begining part is a nice walk though wooded Morro Canyon, the remainder is an abrupt climb up the south cut across road to the ridge that the campground rests on. The trails are more large dirt roads then trails and besides the steepness on the later half, they are non technical trails.

Once at the campground, we will set up camp cook our dinners and enjoy the beautiful views of the Pacific as the sun sets. The next moring we will eat and break camp and return to the sea. The rest of the day will be at your disposal.

This event is for families. We have 16 individual spots available so every person going in your family will need a ticket.

This is an intro to backpacking so required gear will be pretty minor. Recommended beyond the 10 essentials are:

1. Water

2. Sleeping bag and pad. (Small and lightweight backpacking style, for Summer trips, with a good insulated air pad, I sometimes opt for a goose down blanket to save weight and bulk.)

3. Tent minus rainfly (warm Summer weather is expected,) bivey sac, or ground tarp. (I recommend having either a tent or bivy sac, the ants tormented my Dad on his ground tarp at the Deer Canyon site, higher up, last time we went.)

4. Food (This can be as basic or fancy as you want or have the means to prepare. I am usually middle of the road using a small isobutane backpacking stove and pot. However for just one dinner and one breakfast, some premade food/packaged snacks and or fruit will be plenty for this little foray.)

5. Backpack to hold it all. (If you are really interested in this trip but don't have a backpack write us a message and we can ask around the rest of the nature crew to loan some out.)
